Biblical Guidance for Marriage

1.Marriage is designed by God to be a life-long union between one man and one woman.
(Genesis 2:18-25; Matthew 19:4-6).

2.Marriage is meant to be a reflection of God’s relationship with His people (Hosea, Malachi 2:13-16) and Christ’s relationship with His church (Ephesians 5:22-33).

3.God has given men and women specific roles within the marriage. When each one strives to do God’s will within their role, their marriage has the best opportunity to be blessed by God.

a.Husbands are encouraged to study the following passages to better understand their role:

        Genesis 3:17-19, Proverbs 31:28, 1 Corinthians 7:1-16 and 11:3, Ephesians 5:21-33, Colossians 3:19, and 1 Peter 3:7

b.Wives are encouraged to study the following passages to better understand their role:

        Genesis 2:18 and 3:16, Proverb 31, 1 Corinthians 7:1-16, Ephesians 5:21-33, Colossians 3:18, and 1 Peter 3:1-6

4.God’s design is for marriage is that remains strong and vibrant for a lifetime (Mt. 19:1-9). As His church, we have a responsibility to do all that we can to support this truth.

5.Therefore, we encourage anybody desiring counseling in order to resolve marital challenges to seek it from within the church leadership. We recommend that men counsel only men or couples, that women counsel women, and that, where possible, couples counsel couples (see Titus 2). Any of the ministers or elders and their wives are willing to help you obtain the counseling you need.
